Softly patterned and beautifully neutral, Lewis Cobweb is a refined wool check from the Chess Highland Wool II collection. Its pale ivory and natural ground is layered with warm sand, stone and cobweb grey, creating a larger heritage check that feels relaxed, textural and wonderfully easy to live with.
Handmade by Berry & Grouse in 100% pure new wool, Lewis Cobweb brings pattern to a room without overwhelming it. The combination of warm neutrals and softened grey gives the fabric a gently weathered quality, making it particularly beautiful alongside chalky whites, natural timber, wicker, linen and other softly textured materials.
Selected for The Coast House, Lewis Cobweb captures our quieter approach to coastal interiors: natural fibres, sun-washed colour and heritage pattern rather than overt seaside motifs.
Available across our standard lampshade shapes and sizes for table lamps, floor lamps, wall lights and ceiling lighting, according to the shade style and fitting selected.

HANDMADE IN THE BERRY & GROUSE WORKSHOP
Each Lewis Cobweb lampshade is individually handmade by Berry & Grouse using professional lampshade-making materials and 100% pure new wool from the Chess collection.
The larger-scale check is positioned with care so that the balance and character of the pattern are retained around the finished shade. On our drum lampshades, the fabric is kept on the straight, allowing the horizontal and vertical lines of the Lewis check to remain an important part of the finished design. On our tapered candle clip shades, the fabric is positioned on the diagonal, creating a complementary interpretation of the check across the smaller tapered frame.
As a naturally woven wool, subtle variations in yarn, texture and weave form part of the character of the cloth. Combined with the handmade process, this means that every finished lampshade will have its own subtle individuality.
Our drum lampshades are finished with a matt white lining, rolled edges and a single neat vertical seam. Other lampshade shapes are constructed and finished according to their individual frame style.
Drum shades are cut on the straight of the windowpane check to create an orderly, structured finish.
Candle clip shades are cut on the angle, giving the smaller form a more characterful tailored pattern.
Exact line placement will vary slightly according to the fabric cut. Matching orders will be coordinated from the same batch wherever possible.
THE CHESS COLLECTION
Balmoral Rye forms part of the wider Chess House Fabric collection alongside Kintyre and Braemar.
Each design brings a different pattern character:
Balmoral — a traditional tartan-led pattern
Kintyre — a structured check
Braemar — a refined herringboneThe individual collections are presented separately within the House Fabric Registry, making it easier to explore each pattern and colourway while keeping the wider Chess family connected.
THE CHESS COLLECTION
The Berry & Grouse Chess House Fabric collection brings together a considered selection of 100% wool designs, ranging from structured checks and traditional tartans to herringbones and softer layered patterns.
Balmoral brings the familiar character of tartan and heritage check.
Kintyre offers a cleaner, structured windowpane check.
Braemar introduces the quieter texture of classic herringbone.
Lewis brings a broader, layered check with a softer and more relaxed character.Lewis works particularly well where a room needs pattern without the stronger visual structure of a traditional tartan. Its larger intersecting bands create depth while retaining the warmth and tactile character of natural wool.
Each Chess design and colourway is catalogued separately within the Berry & Grouse House Fabric Registry, making it easier to explore the collection by design, colour and character while keeping the wider Chess family connected.
THE COAST HOUSE
Lewis Cobweb has been selected for The Coast House, Berry & Grouse's summer retreat by the sea and our lighter interpretation of heritage interiors.
The Coast House takes its colours from the landscape rather than traditional nautical decoration: pale sand, chalk, weathered timber, dune grasses, sea-washed greys, soft blues and natural fibres.
Lewis Cobweb sits beautifully within this palette. Its pale ground has the softness of ecru linen and sun-bleached wool, while warm sand and stone tones are crossed with softened cobweb grey. The result feels collected and established rather than overtly coastal.
Style it alongside whitewashed and driftwood-toned timber, natural wicker, ecru and cream upholstery, pale wool, weathered ceramics, soft greys and washed coastal blues.
It is a particularly good choice for creating the relaxed, layered look of a refined coastal summer house while retaining the warmth and heritage character at the heart of Berry & Grouse.
