Soft, natural and quietly coastal, Kintyre Millet is a beautifully understated 100% wool check from the Chess collection. A warm millet ground is crossed with fine blue-grey and pale neutral lines, creating a relaxed windowpane pattern with the depth and texture of naturally woven wool.
Handmade by Berry & Grouse, this is a particularly versatile lampshade for lighter country and coastal interiors. The warm neutral ground brings softness, while the restrained blue-grey check introduces just enough definition to sit beautifully alongside chalk whites, washed timber, natural wicker, soft blues and weathered coastal tones.
Kintyre Millet forms part of The Coast House, our lighter, sea-air interpretation of the Berry & Grouse Estate Rooms. Its combination of wool, natural colour and gentle blue-grey makes it particularly suited to the relaxed heritage styling of a refined coastal home.
Available across our standard lampshade shapes and sizes for table lamps, floor lamps, wall lights and ceiling lighting, according to the shade style and fitting selected.

HANDMADE IN THE BERRY & GROUSE WORKSHOP
Each Kintyre Millet lampshade is individually handmade by Berry & Grouse using professional lampshade-making materials and 100% wool from the Chess collection.
The structured check is positioned with care so that its horizontal and vertical lines sit naturally around the finished shade. On our drum lampshades, the Kintyre check is kept on the straight, allowing the clean geometry of the pattern to remain part of the design. On our tapered candle clip shades, the fabric is positioned to complement the proportions and shape of the smaller frame.
As a naturally woven wool fabric, subtle variations in yarn, texture and weave are part of its character. Together with the handmade construction, these variations mean that each finished lampshade will have its own individual character.
Our drum lampshades are finished with a matt white lining, rolled edges and a single neat vertical seam. Other lampshade shapes are constructed and finished according to their individual frame style.
Drum shades are cut on the straight of the windowpane check to create an orderly, structured finish.
Candle clip shades are cut on the angle, giving the smaller form a more characterful tailored pattern.
Exact line placement will vary slightly according to the fabric cut. Matching orders will be coordinated from the same batch wherever possible.
THE CHESS COLLECTION
Balmoral Rye forms part of the wider Chess House Fabric collection alongside Kintyre and Braemar.
Each design brings a different pattern character:
Balmoral — a traditional tartan-led pattern
Kintyre — a structured check
Braemar — a refined herringboneThe individual collections are presented separately within the House Fabric Registry, making it easier to explore each pattern and colourway while keeping the wider Chess family connected.
THE CHESS COLLECTION
Our Chess House Fabric collection brings together three distinctive 100% wool designs, offering different interpretations of traditional British woven pattern.
Balmoral brings the character of tartan and heritage check.
Kintyre offers a cleaner, structured windowpane check.
Braemar introduces the quieter texture of classic herringbone.Kintyre's restrained geometry makes it particularly versatile. Depending upon the colourway, it can move comfortably between traditional country rooms and lighter, more contemporary interiors while retaining the warmth and texture associated with natural wool.
Each Chess design and colourway is catalogued separately within the Berry & Grouse House Fabric Registry, allowing fabrics to be explored by pattern, palette and character while keeping the wider Chess collection connected.
THE COAST HOUSE
Kintyre Millet has been selected for The Coast House, Berry & Grouse's lighter, breezier Estate Room inspired by refined coastal living.
Rather than overt seaside motifs, The Coast House takes its palette from the landscape: pale sand, weathered timber, dune grasses, chalky whites, washed blues and the softer colours of the shoreline.
Kintyre Millet fits naturally into this setting. Its warm neutral wool has the softness of sand and sun-bleached natural fibres, while the fine blue-grey check introduces a subtle connection to sea and sky.
Style it with whitewashed or weathered timber, natural wicker, ecru linen, chalk white ceramics, pale wool, driftwood tones and faded coastal blues for a relaxed summer-house interior that remains rooted in Berry & Grouse's heritage style.
It is coastal by palette and texture rather than theme — making it equally at home in a contemporary Norfolk or Northumberland coastal house as it is in a light-filled country interior.
